How I Can Help You
Anxiety Relief
Feel calmer and more in control
Stress and anxiety can keep the body’s threat-response system on high alert, affecting thoughts, emotions, sleep, and physical wellbeing. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines practical, future-focused conversation with relaxation and hypnosis to help you develop calmer responses and make use of your existing strengths.

Overcome Unwanted Habits
Move beyond unhelpful patterns
Unhelpful habits can develop when certain responses become familiar and automatic. The brain can continue learning throughout life, so practising different ways of thinking and responding can help create change over time. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you focus on the changes you want to make. Sessions support you to build greater choice and control in everyday life.
Improve Your Mood
Restore a greater sense of balance
When people feel low, overwhelmed, or stuck, it can be difficult to notice possibilities or access the things that usually support wellbeing. Sessions focus on small, realistic signs of progress, helpful routines, and the outcomes that matter to you. This approach draws on solution-focused and cognitive-behavioural ideas to encourage more flexible thinking and support a steadier, more hopeful perspective.

About Kay
Hi, I'm Kay Ledgerwood, a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist in Edinburgh.
I provide evidence-based, practical and solution-focused support, drawing on techniques from CBT and NLP, combined with therapeutic hypnosis.
Rather than dwelling on the past, we focus on your strengths, your resources, and the positive changes you want to make, building steady, practical progress session by session.
I bring a background in person-centred counselling from my training as a genetic counsellor, and years of experience as a science teacher explaining how the brain and body work, so you will gain a clear understanding of how stress and anxiety affect your thoughts, emotions, sleep, and day-to-day wellbeing, and the strategies you can use to manage them.
I have supported people with many different issues and conditions. If what you are looking for help with is not listed, please contact me and ask, I may still be able to help.
Hypnotherapy is effective, results may vary and success is not guaranteed. Full client commitment is important.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) combines solution‑focused talking therapy with clinical hypnosis and clear, neuroscience‑informed explanations of stress and anxiety. Instead of spending sessions analysing past problems in detail, SFH focuses on your strengths, goals, and preferred future, using hypnosis to reinforce calm, confidence and new patterns of thinking and behaviour.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Research suggests hypnotherapy can be helpful for a range of issues, including:
-
Anxiety, stress and panic symptoms
-
Low mood and depression
-
Sleep difficulties and insomnia
-
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and some functional gut symptoms
-
Pain, including procedural pain, chronic pain, and some headache types
-
Habit change (for example, smoking cessation) and confidence building
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a calm, focused state to support relaxation and positive change. You remain aware and in control at all times.
Most people describe hypnosis as a pleasant state of deep relaxation and mental focus, similar to daydreaming, being absorbed in a film, or “zoning out” on a familiar drive. Some notice heavy, relaxed limbs; others simply feel very calm and mentally quiet. Afterward, people often report feeling refreshed, calmer, and more in control.
Most people can experience at least a light to moderate hypnotic state if they are willing and able to follow simple instructions. Even a light trance can be therapeutically useful.
